On the face of it, I really like this piece. The colors were chosen wisely and the shades were (for the most part) blended well. It seems a bit smudgey in places, but that doesn't detract from the quality on a larger scope. The line art definitely needs more work, and while I like the execution of the it being colored in some areas, it makes the picture harder to look at in others. Ho-oh's belly is hard to make out in places, and I'm not a fan of the off-white lines going over the Black feet.
I absolutely love the visual gag of here with To Kill A Mockingbird.
The varying thicknesses of the book covers to Ho-Oh's side bothers me some. Many of them are simple far to big, even taking into consideration this piece's style.
I would really like to see a piece like this either commit fully to the softer shading techniques employed, or have more cell-shaded areas.
